Men's Soccer Beats Undefeated, #2 Nationally Ranked Herkimer

The Spartans men's soccer team did what few have done over the past two decades…go to Herkimer and defeat the perennial national powerhouse. Cayuga beat the undefeated and #2 nationally ranked Generals 3-2 in a well-played NJCAA Region III game on Saturday. The Spartans struck first in the early minutes on a goal by freshman Grant Stamp (Swansea, Wales). The Generals scored the equalizer to make it 1-1…before Cayuga's Paul Coyle (Glasgow, Scotland) and Mauricio Kosegarten (Puebla, Mexico) each scored to give the Spartans a 3-1 advantage. Herkimer did score a second goal around the 20-minute mark in the second half…but could not get the tying goal before time expired. Goalkeeper Konrad Pawlowski (Humble, TX) made 8 saves behind a solid team defensive back effort in the win.

The Spartans get another nationally ranked opponent when they face Erie tomorrow on the road in Buffalo.
