Win Over Onondaga Gives Spartans Conference Lead

The Spartans and Lazers matched up in Spartan Hall on Saturday to determine first place in the Mid-State Conference standings at the half-way point. Cayuga was able to get a decent 10-point lead during the first 10 minutes...but Onondaga fought back to cut that lead to 2. From there on, the game was a close fought battle with teams trading leads back and forth during the second half. Devin Moris (Buffalo, NY) was hot from outside nailing four big 3-pointers and going 6-for-6 from the foul line in getting 24 points. Xavier Norgbey (Bronx, NY) scored 18 second half points and 23 on the game to have one of his best games as a Spartan. Guard JoJo Staton (Buffalo, NY) was the third Spartan who had more than 20 points as he ended with 21 points. Cayuga was 14-for-17 from the free throw line on the night which was one of the big factors in the win. Norgbey sealed the win 80-76 with a huge steal in the final seconds. The Spartans travel to corning to begin the second round of conference games on Wednesday.
