Spartans Struggle in Second Half, Fall to Herkimer

The Spartans struggled in their first game of 2020 on Tuesday, falling on the road to the Herkimer College Generals.

Cayuga kept the game close in the first half, trailing the Generals 41-32 at the break. However, missed defensive assignments plagued the Spartans in the second stanza, with the team ultimately falling 95-70.

Second-year guard Stanley Beato led the Spartans with 16 points and added four assists, while Deonte Holder added 15 points to go with four rebounds. Jacob Ramirez had 14 points and five assists, and Shaheed Alcide had six points and 10 rebounds.

The loss drops the Spartans to 4-7 on the season. They play at home Thursday, Jan. 9, against Corning Community College in Cayuga's first Mid-State Athletic Conference contest of the 2019-2020 season. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
