Spartans Fall in Final Home Game of Season

Defensive struggles again hurt the Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball Team on Wednesday, as the Spartans couldn't keep pace with the three-point shooting of Finger Lakes Community College.

In their final home game of the season, the Spartans fell 90-68 to the Lakers (15-10, 6-5), splitting the season series. The loss drops Cayuga to 7-14 overall and 3-7 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference.

Finger Lakes controlled the first half with solid man-to-man defense and strong three-point shooting, finishing the first frame with nine three-pointers and a 45-29 lead. Guard Deonte Holder paced the Spartans' first-half offense with 11 points.

Cayuga cut the Lakers' lead to nine points with less than 13 minutes remaining in the second half, but Finger Lakes quickly rebuilt the lead. The Spartans weren't able to chip away at the margin in the final 10 minutes.

Holder finished with 23 points and seven rebounds, Jacob Ramirez finished with 18 points and six assists, and Shaheed Alcide had 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Spartans have two road games left in the regular season. The first is Saturday at Tompkins Cortland Community College (5-15, 1-9). The Spartans defeated the Panthers earlier this season 89-86. Tip-off in Saturday's contest is noon.
