The Spartans went 8-16 overall and 4-8 in conference play in the 2019-2020 season.

Strong three-point shooting and post scoring led the Cayuga Community College Women's Basketball Team to a conference win over Tompkins Cortland Community College on Saturday.

The Spartans took command early and didn't look back after leading by nine at the end of the first quarter, eventually securing a 84-58 win over the Panthers (3-17, 1-11). The win snaps Cayuga's six-game losing streak and improves their record to 8-14 overall and 4-7 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference.

"I'm very happy with how we played today. We shot the ball well, and moved the ball really well, which helped get us some easier shots," said Cayuga Coach Jim Alberici.

The Spartans relied on a balanced offense and excellent free-throw shooting to amass a 15-point lead by halftime. Forwards Jania Freeman and Gretchen Earl combined for 30 points in the first two quarters, and Cayuga went 19-of-22 from the free-throw line. Guard Fatimaah Findley added another 14 points to push the Spartans to a 50-35 lead at the break.

Cayuga remained in control throughout the second half, with the lead never falling to fewer than 10 points.

Findley led Cayuga with 25 points, including six three-pointers, to go with seven rebounds and four steals. Freeman finished with 24 points and 18 rebounds, and Earl had 24 points and 13 rebounds.

The Spartans play their regular-season finale on Tuesday, February 18, when they travel to Onondaga Community College (23-3, 10-0) to play the Lazers, who are ranked 8th nationally. Tip-off is 5 p.m.
