Cayuga Community College Volleyball dropped three matches Sunday in their final pod competition of the 2022 season.

Playing at Onondaga Community College, the Spartans lost matches to Erie, Jamestown and Niagara County Community Colleges. All three matches finished with scores of 3-0.

Cayuga Coach Kiana Younis said the team rebounded from a difficult first match against Erie to play well in their final two matches against Jamestown and Niagara.

"We were down a player and had some people out of position, so we had a rough start while we adjusted to that," said Younis. "Once we got our feet underneath us, we played better as a team. We need to keep working on our communication and defense, but their effort was outstanding today."

Against Erie, the Spartans lost by scores of 25-7, 25-14 and 25-12, with Cassie Nolte leading Cayuga with 14 digs and five kills and Marrin Owens finishing with nine assists.

The Spartans' play improved in the matches against Jamestown and Niagara. Against Jamestown the Spartans fell by scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-13. Owens led Cayuga with nine assists and tied with Paige Lane with nine digs. Lane and Nolte each finished with five kills. In the match against Niagara, Cayuga fell 25-20, 25-19 and 25-14, with Owens leading the team with 12 digs and 10 assists. Nolte finished with four aces and eight kills.

The Spartans close their season Wednesday with a 6 p.m. home match against Tompkins Cortland Community College. Cayuga defeated the Panthers 3-2 to start the season on Sept. 10.
