Week of Wins for Cayuga Esports

Week of Wins for Cayuga Esports

After a tough first week, Cayuga Community College's Esports team took wins in all three competitions during the week of Oct. 13.

The Spartans picked up their first victories in Hearthstone, Rocket League and Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, including shut outs in the latter two contests. With the wins, Cayuga is now 1-1 in Hearthstone, 1-2 in Rocket League and 1-5 in Super Smash Brothers.

Esports Coach Gina Welliver said the team took a step forward in the most recent week of competition, dominating several of its matches.

"We had a rocky start, but everything picked up this week. I think we just needed to adjust to competition," said Welliver. "With our early matches and practices, we're getting the hang of things, and that helped us win each match this week."

In Hearthstone, Katie Myers scored a 3-1 win over a student from Missouri State University-West Plains. Myers picked up a win in the first contest as the Hunter against the opponent's Demon Hunter. She lost the second match with both her and her opponent competing as Demon Hunters, but captured the next two matches for the win as a Demon Hunter and a Mage.

The Spartans' team of Oakley Fitzgerald, Matt Hribick and Brett Wilson completed a 3-0 win over a team from SUNY Adirondack in Rocket League. The Spartans took an 8-0 win in the first game, with Fitzgerald scoring five goals. Cayuga captured the next two contests 3-0. Fitzgerald scored a total of nine goals, with Hribick scoring three and Wilson scoring two.

In Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, Draven Lefler scored a shutout 3-0 win over a student from Schenectady County Community College.
