Spartans Earn Academic Honors for 2022-23

Cayuga Community College student-athletes recently earned academic accolades for their work in the classroom, highlighted by the Baseball team earning recognition on the NJCAA's list of Academic Teams of the Year.

The NJCAA recognized six Spartans for their academic success in the 2022-23 year, and 11 student-athletes were recognized as Region III Academic All-Region. The Baseball team was named to the NJCAA's list of Academic Teams of the Year with a cumulative GPA of 3.13.

Five members of the Cayuga Baseball team — Alex Gaudet, Matt Rumney, Wyatt Ernst, Fernando Espinal and Joey Young — and Men's Basketball's Justin Baldwin were named to the NJCAA All-Academic teams. Baldwin, Gaudet and Rumney were named to the All-Academic Second Team, and Ernst, Espinal and Young were named to the Third Team.

Student-athletes are named NJCAA All-Academic Second Team if they complete the year with a GPA of 3.8 to 3.99. The All-Academic Third Team includes student-athletes with a GPA of 3.6 to 3.79.

For the Region III awards, five other student-athletes joined Baldwin, Ernst, Espinal, Gaudet, Rumney and Young in earning academic honors. Oakley Fitzgerald and Eric Gilcher from Cayuga's Esports team were named Academic-All Region, as were Tyler Korsky, Perry Chetney and Michael Norton from the Baseball team.
