Cayuga Community College Baseball lost the opener to SUNY Broome on Saturday but came back to take the second contest. 

Cayuga scored six runs in the seventh inning but lost the opener 9-8 before coming back with a six-run first inning in the nightcap on the way to a 9-7 win. Cayuga is now 19-5 on the season and 15-3 in Region III competition.

The Spartans took an early lead in the first game when Phil Messina scored on a Mike Norton single, and Norton drove-in Messina again with a double in the third. Cayuga didn't score again until the top of the seventh, when they crossed home six times. Roy Glaum's double scored Luke Ough and Bradley Soto, and Messina and Norton also drove-in runs in the inning.

Norton finished three-for-five with two doubles and three RBI, and Messina went four-for-five with a triple, two runs and an RBI.

The Spartans opened the second game with a six-run first, with Luke Ough and Perry Chetney driving in two runs apiece. Messina's single drove-in Chetney and Glaum in the third, and Caleb Delly scored Cayuga's final run of the day on a double by Tyler Korsky.

Matt Rumney got the win for Cayuga, striking out seven in 6 2/3 innings. Messina and Chetney had two hits and two RBI apiece.

Cayuga is back home Sunday, April 16, to host the Hornets at Falcon Park. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
