Cayuga Community College Baseball ended a short losing streak with a home win over Jefferson Community College on Saturday.

The Spartans broke an early tie to take the first game 9-4, snapping a three-game losing streak with the win. The teams battled into extra innings in the second game, with the Cannoneers taking the contest 10-6. The split makes the Spartans 25-11 on the season and 21-9 in Region III play.

Both lineups opened up strong, scoring four runs apiece in the first three innings of the opening contest. Cayuga took a 4-1 lead on Tyler Korsky's three-run homer, but the Cannoneers came back to tie it in the third. The Spartans reclaimed the lead on Brandon Hoftijzer's solo homer in the fourth, then scored one more that inning and two more in the fifth on Fernando Espinal's two-run single.

Keegan Ferris threw four scoreless innings in relief to earn the win, striking out four and allowing three hits. Mike Norton went four-for-four with a run and RBI, Espinal scored three runs and Korsky had three RBI.

Jefferson took an early lead in the second game with three runs in the second and held Cayuga's lineup in check for much of the contest. Perry Chetney powered the Spartans' comeback, scoring Korsky on a single in the fourth and coming back in the fifth with a sacrifice fly, plating Phil Messina to make the score 4-2. After Espinal singled home Alex Gaudet in the sixth, Chetney hit another sacrifice fly in the seventh to tie the game.

Jefferson quickly reclaimed the lead in the eighth, moving ahead 6-4. Cayuga rallied in the bottom half of the inning, with Hoftijzer tripling home Luke Ough and Gaudet to tie the game. The Cannoneers scored four more in the ninth, though, to earn the win.

Chetney finished with three RBI, Gaudet scored twice, and Korsky went two-for-three with a double and two runs scored.
