A dominant lineup and a shutout by Connor McMahon propelled Cayuga Community College Baseball's sweep of Corning Community College on Thursday.

The Spartans set a program record with their 28th and 29th victories of the season in wins of 11-0 and 17-7 over the Red Barons. Cayuga is now 29-11 on the season with two games remaining before the postseason starts.

"Both of these games today were good wins to get us going in the right direction with the playoffs starting soon. Our lineup is really starting to come around now," said Cayuga Coach John Rizzo.

While McMahon stifled the Red Barons, the Spartans plated five runs on five singles in the first inning, with RBIs by Tyler Korsky and Perry Chetney. Cayuga tallied three runs in the second inning, including two on a double by Chetney, and scored two more in the third on a single by Phil Messina. Michael Norton's solo homer in the fourth closed the scoring.

McMahon threw a complete game, allowing only two hits and striking out two. Fernando Espinal and Messina each had three hits, with Espinal scoring three runs and Messina driving in three. Chetney had two hits, a run and three RBI, Norton had two RBI and Korsky scored twice.

The second game started similarly, with Cayuga ripping off nine runs in the first, including two-run triples by Korsky and Alex Gaudet. The Red Barons rallied for seven runs in the second, though, to cut the lead to two. Ahead 9-7 in the third, Cayuga scored seven runs, including two-run singles by Caleb Delly and Bradley Soto.

Contributions at the plate came from each starter. Six starters finished with at least two hits, seven scored twice or more, and six had at least two RBI. Chetney and Gaudet each had three hits, with Chetney scoring three times and Gaudet driving in three. Four Spartans pitchers combined to allow only three hits in five innings.

Cayuga closes its regular season with a home doubleheader against Finger Lakes Community College (38-13) on Sunday, May 7. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
