Spartans Lose First Contest in Maryland

The first game of Cayuga Community College Baseball's schedule in Maryland saw the Spartans fall to CCBC Catonsville on Sunday.

The Spartans scored first but then saw the Cardinals score 13 runs in the first two innings on the way to a 20-1 win. With the loss Cayuga is now 2-3 on the season.

Cayuga scored in the first when Perry Chetney's single scored leadoff hitter Mike DeRosa. The Spartans put two more runners on-base in the inning, but didn't score again. The Cardinals pushed six runs across in the first, knocking out four hits and capitalizing on two errors. Catonsville scored seven more in the second.

DeRosa had two hits for Cayuga, with Chetney and Jacob Laird both picking up one hit.

Cayuga will play Catonsville again on Monday, March 11, in another nine-inning contest. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
