Cayuga Community College Baseball fell behind early and was unable to stage a comeback in a road loss to CCBC Catonsville on Monday.

The Spartans surrendered five runs over the first two innings and ended up on the losing side of a 10-2 nine-inning contest to the Cardinals. Cayuga is now 2-4 on the season and will return to Region III competition later this week.

After managing only two hits through the first four innings, Cayuga cut the Cardinals' lead to 5-1 in the fifth when Mike DeRosa scored Owen Browne on a fielder's choice. The Spartans scored again in the sixth when Alex Gaudet singled to left field, scoring Antonio Munoz.

Six Spartans ended the game with a hit, with Jacob Laird's double serving as the only extra-base hit. DeRosa had two stolen bases and Browne had one stolen base. Brantley Griggs allowed one run in three innings of relief.

Cayuga is back in New York this weekend but will still be on the road, with away doubleheaders at Genesee Community College on Saturday, March 16, and at Monroe Community College on Sunday, March 17.
