Cayuga Community College Baseball lost both halves of a road doubleheader to #10 Hudson Valley Community College on Tuesday.

The Spartans were unable to breakthrough against the Vikings, dropping the opener 5-1 and losing the second game 4-0. Cayuga is now 9-9 on the season and 4-4 in divisional play.

"Our offensive struggles are forcing our pitchers to be perfect, and that's too much to ask," said Cayuga Coach John Rizzo. "I have to find a way to put our hitters in a position to have success."

Cayuga managed their only run of the first game in the fifth inning when Yoldi Soriano walked, stole second and later scored on a force-out by Owen Browne. The Spartans had runners in scoring position in the first inning and again in the seventh but were unable to score.

Kevin Dolan and Mike DeRosa both finished with two hits in the opener, with Bradley Soto-Diaz, Juan Perez and Browne also managing base hits for the Spartans. Starting pitcher Cam Langille struck out seven in five innings.

In the second game, Perry Chetney doubled in the first inning to put a runner in scoring position for Cayuga, but the inning ended without the Spartans scoring. They threatened again in the fourth and seventh innings but were unable to capitalize.

Jared King had his second straight solid start for the Spartans, scattering six hits in 4 1/3 innings of work. Chetney, DeRosa and Perez each went one-for-three, and Soto-Diaz went one-for-two.

Cayuga is on the road Thursday at Herkimer College. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
