Cayuga Community College Baseball suffered their first conference losses of the season Thursday in a road doubleheader at Finger Lakes Community College.

The Spartans lost a narrow 2-1 opener on a walk-off single, then fell behind early and couldn't catch the Lakers in the nightcap, losing 9-6. The losses leave Cayuga 11-11 on the season and 4-2 in Mid-State Athletic Conference play.

In the opener, Cayuga starter Cam Langille shut down the Lakers' lineup, surrendering only a single run in the third inning. The Spartans, though, were held in check until the sixth, when Bradley Soto-Diaz scored on a double steal to tie the game at one. The Lakers loaded the bases in the seventh and scored the winning run on an infield single.

Langille threw six innings, allowing only four hits and striking out five. Soto-Diaz was one-for-two with a walk and run, and Owen Browne was one-for-three with a double.

In the second contest, Cayuga's Perry Chetney briefly put the Spartans ahead in the first with an RBI single, but the Lakers plated eight in the bottom half of the inning. Cayuga chipped away at the Lakers' lead over the next four innings, cutting the margin to 8-4 in the third on a Lakers' error and making it 9-6 in the fourth when Yoldi Soriano's sacrifice fly scored Chetney. Cayuga threatened again in the fifth, but failed to score in the final three innings.

Cayuga relief pitcher Christian Eddy threw five innings, allowing one run on two hits. Chetney went two-for-three with two runs and an RBI, Juan Perez scored twice, and Soriano had a run, RBI and two stolen bases.

The Spartans are back home Sunday, April 21, to host Jefferson Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
