Spartans Fall to Red Barons

Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball lost a conference and regional contest to Corning Community College on Sunday.

The Spartans and Red Barons were tied at halftime, but Corning took the lead early in the second half and held it the rest of the game for an 80-69 win. The Red Barons also won earlier this year at Spartan Hall.

Cayuga trailed by single digits for much of the first half before tying the game with five minutes left on a three-pointer by DJ Johnson. A three-pointer by Hunter Martin with 45 seconds left briefly gave the Spartans a two-point lead, but the teams were tied at 38 at halftime.

Corning took the lead early in the second half and led by double-digits for much of the frame, holding the Spartans to 31 points in the half.

Martin, Johnson and guard Donald Grant led the Spartans on the offensive end. Grant finished with a team-high 16 points, and Martin added 14 points and six rebounds. Johnson finished with 13 points and tied for a team-high seven rebounds.

Cayuga is now 2-12 on the season. They're back home Wednesday, Jan. 24, to host Genesee Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
