Spartans Fall to Vikings

Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball couldn't overcome a slow start in a home loss to Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday.

The Spartans struggled early on both ends of the court but rallied to play the Vikings even for much of the remainder of the game. That wasn't enough to catch the Vikings, though, who came away with the 77-65 win.

The Vikings raced out early to a 26-8 lead, but the Spartans cut the lead to 10 with three minutes left on a Desean Strachan layup. Cayuga outscored the Vikings 24-14 in the final 10 minutes of the half and trailed 40-32 at the break.

Hudson Valley rebuilt its lead early in the second half, outscoring Cayuga 11-5 in the opening minutes. The Vikings held a double-digit lead for much of the frame, with Cayuga cutting it to 10 on a Hunter Martin three-pointer with just 33 seconds left.

Cayuga forward Tony Borges led the Spartans with 17 points, while guards Jorge Jimenez and Strachan each added 11. Forward Ryan Adams finished with 12 points.

Cayuga will look to rebound on Sunday, January 28, when they host SUNY Adirondack. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
