Spartans Lose in Final Minutes to Timberwolves

Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball led for most of the game before falling in the final minutes to SUNY Adirondack on Sunday.

The Spartans built an early lead and held the advantage at halftime, but the Timberwolves' comeback in the final minutes led to an 88-80 win for SUNY Adirondack.

Cayuga opened the game shooting well from the outside. Guard Hunter Martin and forward Ryan Adams combined for three three-pointers early to help the Spartans lead 11-4. Martin and forward Tony Borges combined for 26 points in the first half to push the Spartans to a 40-35 halftime lead.

The Spartans held a single-digit lead for most of the second half, but the Timberwolves tied the game with less than 10 minutes to play and led 71-68 with five minutes left. They outscored the Spartans 17-12 in the final minutes to come away with the win.

Martin led Cayuga with 19 points in the contest. Desean Strachan finished with 17, Borges had 16 and Adams added 10.

The Spartans are back home Wednesday, January 31, to host Jefferson Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
