Basketball Ends Season with Road Loss

Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball ended its 2023-24 season with a road loss to one of the top teams in Region III on Saturday.

The Spartans fell behind early to Fulton-Montgomery Community College, ultimately losing 112-64 to the Raiders, who are currently the second-place team in the region. Cayuga ends the season with a 2-20 record.

The Raiders raced out to a 57-27 halftime lead over the Spartans. Cayuga played a more competitive second half but was unable to narrow the Raiders' advantage. Forward Tony Borges led Cayuga with 16 points and collected nine rebounds. Hunter Martin had 13 points, and DJ Johnson had 10 points and seven rebounds. Ryan Adams had a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Spartans also lost two games in the previous week, falling on the road to SUNY Broome on Feb. 7 by an 84-65 margin and at home in overtime on Feb. 14 to Finger Lakes Community College, 81-77.

Against the Hornets, Jorge Jimenez led Cayuga with 17 points, sinking five of nine three-pointers. Borges had 12 points, and Desean Strachan had 10. Johnson added seven points and a team-high nine rebounds.

In the contest against Finger Lakes, Borges had 18 points and nine rebounds, Jimenez finished with 16 points and five assists, Strachan had 16 points, and Martin had 11 points.
