Cayuga Men's Golf Deals With Cold Snowy Weather

The Spartans Golf Team Carded a total of 357 at the OCC Invitational, on the Links at Sunset Ridge, in Marcellus, NY.  Once again the cold spring season and high winds, combined with intermittent snow fall, made for difficult playing conditions.  At the time of this report there were still teams out on the course, therefore final team and individual results were not known.  Simon Fricano (Union Springs, NY) and Gavin Dennis (Weedsport, NY) recorded the two lowest rounds for the Spartans, at 85 and 89, putting them only one more solid round away from the Region III Tournament qualifier, in May.

Coach Renaud, despite the elevated scores, was happy with the team and individual efforts: "Our six man, Russell Chappell (Union Springs, NY) has shaved 15 strokes off his game since our first tournament, and Phil Tabone (Weedsport, NY) put 9 pars on the card today.  Our problem, despite having some consistency in getting pars, bogies (with a birdie thrown in here and there), is when we exceed bogie, it normally comes in the form of a triple and quadruple.  We simply need to become more consistent in our course management, and play safe versus trying to get a stroke or two back in one swing."

The Spartans travel North tomorrow for their 10 a.m. shotgun start at the Watertown Golf Club, hoster by Jefferson Community College.
