Spartans Complete First Day of NJCAA Regional Tournament

The Men's Golf Team completed the first round of the NJCAA Regional Tournament this evening, hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College and played out of the McConnesville Golf Club, in McConnesville, NY.

Jake Dechick (Weedsport, NY) posted a low round for the Spartans with an 82, and Simon Fricano (Union Springs, NY) carded an 85, putting them in position to qualify for the NJCAA National Tournament in June.  The team's overall score was 359, good for 9th in the team standings.  The top two teams qualify for the NJCAA National Tournament, and the remaining top 10 golfers, regardless of team finish, advance to the National Tournament to compete in the individual category.

"Jake started off the first three holes 6 over, refocused and dialed in over the remaining 15 holes to post a very respectable score in tough conditions, with wind, rain and sleet all part of the 5 hours on the course.  Simon finished the first 9 strong, but encountered a couple of bad breaks over the course of the back nine, but still remains in the top 10 individually going into tomorrow," said Coach Renaud.

The final round will take place at the Oneida Golf Club, in Oneida, NY, tomorrow with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.  "Coach Mosley and I feel if Simon and Jake can both post a low 80 or high 70 in the final round, they will qualify for the National Tournament in Chatauqua in early June."  The National Tournament will take place June 9th-11th, hosted by Jamestown Community College.
