Fricano In The Middle Of The Pack, But Not Out Of The Hunt

Simon Fricano (Union Springs, NY) carded an 82 on the first day of the NJCAA Golf National Championship Tournament this afternoon, held at the Chautauqua Institute Golf Club, in Chautauqua, NY.  He finds himself in a tie for 51st out of the 88 competing golfers.  He was 12 strokes off the medalist score of 70, and finds himself still in the hunt for a top 20 finish and potential All American Status.  Jamestown Community College, the host college, posted the best team score of 297 on the day, 10 strokes clear of second place Monroe Community College.

"Simon was four over after 9 holes, and then suffered a +5 stroke setback on the final four holes, otherwise I think he was looking at a 77 or better," said Coach Renaud.  "But for his first time in the National Championship Tournament, I thought he played well and can certainly go lower than today's round, on the final three days, putting him back in contention for national recognition."

All scores will be accessible via the njcaa.org website after each round is completed.

Fricano will tee off tomorrow at 9:32 a.m.  Thursday and Friday tee times will be set according to place of standing after the first two rounds.
