Men's Soccer Tops Corning 2-0

After playing a scoreless first half, the Spartans were finally able to find the back of the net in the 65th minute of play on a Nahayo Manasse (Syracuse, NY) goal…assisted by Mario Paiva (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Cayuga narrowly missed scoring opportunities during the first half on chances by Elias Owusu (Brooklyn, NY) during the game's opening minute and a stopped penalty kick by Bruno Gaudie-Ley (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Freshman Owen Parseghian (King's Ferry, NY) added the Spartan's second goal in the 79th minute of the second half on a cross from Mario Paiva. Parseghian positioned himself well after Muke Heri (Syracuse, NY) and Paiva worked the ball up the field.

The defensive end was anchored by Zachary Howell (Fulton, NY) and Will Backhouse (Swinton, England)…helping protect goal keeper Sean Dockrell's (Dublin, Ireland) first collegiate shutout.

Coach Wynne had this to say after the game… "It was a very hard game to watch from the sidelines, due to the fact we out shot Corning 37-1 and struggled to score during the early stages. Red Baron keeper Cody Greene (20 Saves) was huge for Corning. He kept the score respectful against us, but it was good to get the win and move to 2-0 on the season. Zach Howell played very well defensively for us tonight, considering he filled in at center defense. I feel this gives us good momentum for our game against Mohawk on Saturday at 1:00 PM."
