Men's Soccer Shuts Out Broome 4-0

The Spartans struck early with a goal from Jaime Carolissen (Cape Town, South Africa) in the first minute of the game, from a through ball by Bruno Gaudie-Ley (Rio, Brazil). Jaime, who made his debut today for the Spartans, quickly got into the game as he dribbled past the Broome goalkeeper, to score the opening goal of the match. Cayuga kept the pressure on, but was unable to capitalize during the rest of the first half.

In the first 6 minutes of the second half, Mario Paiva (Rio, Brazil) had a great individual goal to take on a number of Hornet defenders and passed it by the oncoming keeper to put the Spartans up 2-0. Paiva was involved once again after he dribbled into the box, and was taken down for a penalty kick in the 57nd minute of the game. Up stepped, Captain William Backhouse (Swindon, England) to take the PK, and sent the Broome keeper the wrong way to score his first goal of the season. Paiva finished off his performance with another goal 8 minutes later with the assist from Nahayo Manasse (Syracuse, NY). Sean Dockrell (Dublin, Ireland) recorded his second career shut-out with 4 saves.

Coach Wynne was delighted with the win and said… "I really think the team is gelling nicely and it's nice to see them play some really good soccer. Jaime Carolissen had a great debut for the Spartans scoring early in the game. Overall a great team performance, we just have to focus for the next road game against Onondaga Community College on 9/21 at 7pm. The Spartan's record now stands at 3-1-1.
