Cayuga's Heartache On The Road To Neighboring County Rivals

Cayuga's Heartache On The Road To Neighboring County Rivals

The Spartans travelled to local county rival Onondaga Community College. The Spartans started the game very well with a number of possessions in the first 20 minutes. The Spartans just missed on scoring opportunities with misses from Heri Muke (Syracuse, NY) with a total of 3 shots in the first 20 minutes. Jamie Carolissen (Cape Town, South Africa) hit the crossbar minutes later from a loose ball in the box, and Bruno Gaudie-Ley (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) went one on one with the keeper on a through ball from Jaime Carolissen, but the Lazer keeper made a nice save. The game was played at a very fast pace, but it remained scoreless at half.

Spartans started the second half playing into the wind and opened up the scoring with the first goal of the night in the 50th minute. Nathan Parsons (Fulton, NY) scored his first collegiate goal for Cayuga. The ball was bouncing in the box, and Parsons got on the end of it to put it in the net for the Spartans to go 1-0 up. The Spartan lead was short lived, when OCC's Hobie Ramin (Baldwinsville, NY) beat 2 midfielders and left footed a shot past the Spartan goalkeeper Sean Dockrell (Malahide, Ireland) to even the game at 1-1, just 30 seconds after Parson's goal. It went back and forth for a while with some intensity between the Spartans and the Lazers. Nahayo Manasse (Syracuse, NY) was the closet to give the Spartans the lead, but a good save by keeper Tim Elliott (Syracuse, NY) to deny Manasse.

The heartache came in the final 3 minutes of the game, when a long ball was sent over the top of the Cayuga defense, and some miscommunication between Spartan keeper (Dockrell) and the defense…let Joseph Giordano in to score the winner for Onondaga.

Coach Wynne had this to say, "I thought both teams were well matched skill wise, but it's a very tough loss to swallow. We felt like we should've got something out of this game tonight, but it never came in the end." The Spartans move to 3-2-1 in the region, and will face Fulton-Montgomery on Saturday 9/24 in Auburn, NY at 3PM.
