Spartans Cruise to Victory at Niagara

Niagara N.Y. - The Cayuga Men's Soccer team traveled to their western state neighbors Niagara County Community College today, coming off the back of a two game winning streak.

It didn't take long to get on the score sheet as Cayuga quickly opened up their account. Spartan Goalkeeper Tautis Poniskaitis (London, England) played a precise ball to Cayuga captain Sean Wynn (Liverpool, England), who leaped into the air to receive his countryman's pass with great skill. Wynn then used some great individual skill to beat the NCCC right back, then for the NCCC defender to take him down just outside the box. Up stepped Wynn to take the free kick and precisely place it on the head of fellow captain Jason Boxx (London, England) to make it 1-0 to the Spartans.

Minutes later Matthew Spencer-Harty (Sunderland, England) was fouled in the box and the referee called a PK for the foul. Sean Wynn (Liverpool, England) confidently stepped up to take it and with the keeper getting a hand on the ball, couldn't keep out the powerful shot.

Just before the end of half time Cayuga made it 3-0 with Derek Southworth (Fulton, N.Y.) played a pass into Ryan Killian (Scipio, N.Y.), who turned the defender with a great touch and passed it by the on-rushing NCCC keeper to make it 3-0.

In the second half, Cayuga controlled most of the play when James Green stepped onto the scoresheet with a 40 yard strike that slightly deflected off a defender to go into the upper 90 (top right corner) to push the Spartans to a 4-0 victory. Tautis Poniskaitis sealed his first collegiate shut-out of his career. He finished with 7 saves, and a game worthy of his caliber. Cayuga Men's team finished with 21 shots.

The happy men's soccer coach from Cayuga had this to say, "delighted for the boys, they worked hard and left their mark in the game with a great win", "we just have to focus on the next game at home on Wednesday against regionally ranked Broome County Community College."

The Spartans move to 3-0-1 for the season and face Broome on Wednesday at 5pm in Emerson Park. Let's go Spartans!!!!!!!
