Niagara Falls to Cayuga 5-1

Niagara Falls to Cayuga 5-1

Auburn, N.Y. - Emerson Park was the setting for the game between the visitors, Niagara Community College and Cayuga men's soccer team. Both teams started well but it was the visitors that took the lead on the 20th minute in the first half. The Spartans evened the score 4 minutes later when Chris Davison (Newcastle, England) rounded the NCCC keeper to open his account for the Spartans to tie the game at 1-1. Cayuga took the lead just minutes later when one of the Niagara players handled the ball inside the penalty area. Captain, Sean Wynn (Liverpool, England) stepped up to slot the ball into the keepers left, send the NCCC keeper the wrong way. Freshman Connor Field (Felixstowe, England) added his name to the score sheet 3 minutes later with a fantastic goal straight into the top corner, with the assist coming from Chris Davison (Newcastle, England). The half ended with Cayuga leading NCCC 3 to 1.

The whistle started the second half and again the Spartans pushed for another when local sophomore Bud Morris (Auburn, N.Y.) put the ball low into the net to extend the lead to 4-1 with the assist coming from Jack Brandon (Cardiff, Wales). Brandon scored the final goal on a pass from freshman Josh Grace (Glasgow, Scotland)…when he headed the ball to Brandon, who put it into the net from 10 yards out. The final whistle came soon after and the Spartans beating NCC, 5-1.

Coach Wynne said about the encounter, "I'm glad we won but it wasn't a great win, I felt we struggled a little in our possession game and had some scoring opportunities that we failed to cash in. We should have played better, I feel that's something we've been lacking overall, but a win is a win".

The Spartans move to 4-0 in the first week of the 2014 season and face Broome Community College on Wednesday in Binghamton N.Y. at 3:00pm.
