#5 Ranked Men’s Soccer Wins Opener Over North Country

The men's soccer team has won its first game of the season with a statement 8-1 win at North Country CC. Paul McCormick (Glasgow, Scotland) scored the first goal for the Spartans only 12 seconds into the game. Vishal Patel (London, England) scored only 2 minutes later (assisted by McCormick) to get the Spartans up 2-0 early into the game. The Saints were able to pull one back, on a scrappy mistake at the back at 30 minute mark, and had hopes to get back in the game, but the Spartans showed a lot of composure, and were able to score again, McCormick adding his name again on the score sheet heading in a great gross from Roberto Stanescu (Long Island City, NY) at the 26:35 mark. The Spartans continued to control the game and scored their 4th of the night, this time from a PK converted by Sean Richards (Cardiff, Wales) with 26 minutes left on the clock. The lead went up to 5-1 a minute later, Daniel Bonehill (Birmingham, England) scoring his first career goal for the Spartans with 22:23 left in second half (assisted by McCormick). With 2 minutes left into the first half Chris Davison (Newcastle, England) scored his first of the season…again assisted by McCormick.

The Spartans were able to tack on two more in the second half, with goals from Mc Cormick (assisted by Richards) and from Enoch Chondol (Liverpool, England) assisted by Joseph Ayandeji (Bolton, England).

Goalkeepers Thalu Masindi (London, England) made 3 saves and Joe Wilkins (Rochester, England) came in with about 25 min left into the game and had 1 save.
