Lady Spartans Sweep Broome
The Lady Spartans were able to find two wins yesterday as they faced the Lady Hornets of Broome Community College. With the Spartans leading 8-1 going into the 7th inning a few errors and mental lapse ended up putting Broome up a run. With bases loaded and 2 outs sophomore catcher Nina Kowal (Auburn, NY) hit a ball right down the left field line hitting in the game winning runs ending the game 10-9. Stefanie Mitchell (Onondaga, NY) pitched another outstanding game striking out 12 in the first game.
The second game was much of the same for the Spartans, scoring 3 runs in the 2nd inning Broome answered back with 2 runs in the 3rd inning, only up 1 run the Spartans were able to tack on 3 more runs in the 4th inning. Broome was able to get 2 more runs in the 4th and 6th inning. With the score 6-4 going into the 7th inning the Spartans were unable to secure some insurance runs, however with good pitch selection Mitchell was able to strike out 3 of the last 5 batters for the win. Both Mitchell and Danielle Vuillemot (Auburn, NY) went 2 for 4, and Mitchell ended the 2 games with a total of 22 strikeouts. The Spartans look to continue their winning ways this weekend where they face Erie Community College on Saturday and then Genesee Community College on Sunday.
