Spartans Bowl Well in SCCC Tourneys Over Weekend
Cayuga men's Spartans bowling team raised their season record to 39-9 after a 3rd place finish at the Boulevard Bowl Invitational in Schenectady. The Spartan men averaged 218 for 48 games of doubles and singles. They were led by sophomore co-captain Alex DiGenaro with a (720-670)-1390 also freshman Bernie Cecchini blasted the pins with (634-738)1372. Cecchini's 738 earned him a 3rd place finish in singles. DiGenaro along with Ryan Zbikowski paired with his (664-651)1315 to come in 4th in doubles. Other top scores were Sodus standout Kyle Wren with 1315 and fellow Sodus resident Nate Tuper shot a 278-268-167-713 in the doubles segment.
The Cayuga women also managed a 3rd place finish led by East Syracuse-Minoa standout Beth Piston with a 290-705 along with a 560 finish to give her a 3rd place finish in the all events. Piston and her doubles partner Kylie Clifford 276-644-620 took 2nd in the doubles coming up short only by 2 pins. Clifford's 620 in the singles was good enough to be high for the Spartans and also take 4th in all events. Team captain Mary Townley fired a super 659 in doubles along with Deanna Connolly for a 6th place finish. Kelly Newton had her highest performance of the season with a 520-591 6-game block.
The men were led by Baldwinsville standout Ryan Zbikowski 257-628. Also bowling well on the very low scoring oil pattern was Co-captain Alex Digenaro 255-626. The 2 teams will be moving on to Regional and National Championships over the next 4 weeks held in Utica, Buffalo and Allentown, PA.
