Spartans lose opener to defending National Champs
The Spartans traveled to Plattsburgh, New York to take on Clinton Community College...the #1 ranked team in the nation and defending 2010 National Champions.
Chelsea LaRose of Clinton scored a hat trick for the Cougars in
the 5-0 win over the Spartans in the season-opener for both teams
on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans tried to get on the scoreboard with some first half
breakaways, but were unable to capitalize. Alexis Bushey was
able to score Clinton’s first and second goals in the first
half despite some tenacious defending by freshman Morgan
Clancy.
The Spartans were able to get 6 shots on goal, but to no
avail. Tia Segretto and Diana Cordova worked well to advance
the ball toward the Cougars goal, but were unable to find the back
of the net.
Freshman goalkeeper Kiera Browne made several great saves to keep
the Cougars from scoring on several opportunities. The
Cougars out-shot the Spartans, 30-6, in the match and held an 8-0
edge in corner kicks.
The Spartans (0-1) return home to action this Wednesday at 3:00
p.m. to play Corning CC at Emerson Park.
