Lazers Top Lady Spartans

Lazers Top Lady Spartans
The Spartans had two defensive breakdowns inside the 30 minute mark of the first half and that was all the Lazers would need to capitalize on the woman up advantage, finishing on almost indentical shots from the right side of the 18 to the far post over the outstretched hands of goalie Bre Becker (Lusby, MD).

The Spartans, true to form, did not give up and had two chances as the half closed out, with Tia Segretto (Jordan-Elbridge, NY)  getting in behind the defense on a nice build up of one versus three move through their back three defenders. Alas, her rifled shot caught the near post side netting. Brooke Mayville (Ontario, NY) continued her great play and also pushed forward offensively narrowly missing on a near post shot as the Lazer defense closed in on her atop the 18.

"Once again we lost the midfield possession battle and our defense got caught up too far after we pushed forward offensively, leaving Tiffany Westmiller (Port Byron, NY) and Lynsey Potter (Pulaski, NY) to attempt to stop a 4 v2 counter. Bre did the right thing coming off her line on both goals to attempt to close down their shooting angles, but they were both very nice finishes, of which I am not sure anyone could have saved," Coach Renaud said.

"Defensively, when we maintaine our back four shape, we are tough to beat, as evident from shutting them down the entire second half. Offensively we have to become more aggressive to the ball and find composure over the ball when we are in possession in the middle third. We are still experiencing to many gaps between oiur midfield and back four."

Coach Renaud noted Sarah Miller (Auburn. NY) had her best game of the season, with Tiffany Westmiller playing stellar defensively, where at one point she did not give on up an offensive push from OCC and was able to clear a sure goal off the line after Becker was removed from the play near the penalty spot.
