Broncos Escape with 2-0 Win Over Spartans

SUNY Delhi and the Lady Spartans played a physical, back and forth contest today, with the Broncos finally putting a number on the scoreboard in the 79th minute, as Jackie Yambor corralled in a defensive misplay and laid a perfect ball back to Sarah Stone, who only had to put the ball on frame for the ball to reach the back of the net.  Up to that point, both teams had a handful of great opportunities on net.  For Cayuga, they were mostly in the form of using their speed against the back four of Delhi and carrying the ball to the top of the 18 only to be met by Broncos goalie, Annie Millar, who did a nice job of coming off her line to thwart the Spartans chances.  The Broncos relied mostly on shooting from outside the 18, whereas Bre Becker (Lusby, MD) would hold her line and utilize her height and quick lateral movement, catching or knocking aside 19 shots on goal.

The Broncos would then seal the match 4 minutes later with an unassisted goal by Ty Klinker.
The back four for the Spartans; Lynsey Potter (Pulaski, NY), Tia Segretto (Jordan-Elbridge, NY), Nytesha Mulkey (Red Creek, NY) and Tiffany Westmiller (Port Byron, NY) were outstanding all day…as was midfielder Brooke Mayville (Ontario, NY) and Hannah Sessler (Cato, NY) continued her improved play.

"I continue to be impressed with our squad.  It was our first match with a full 11, and despite the fact a handful of our active players were still nursing nagging injuries, they did not use it as an excuse not to play and stuck it through the entire contest.  We had a couple of times during both the first and second half, where a player pulled herself to get a quick treatment or re-taping, and the 10 left on the field, through this entire season's trials were able to withstand any offensive attacks by the Broncos," said Coach Renaud.
"We continue to improve on all the little things necessary to win the possession game, and I very proud of our attitude and approach to every match as our season comes to a close."
The Spartans play their final home match on Tuesday, against Jamestown Community College at 2 p.m.
