Two Lady Spartans Awarded 2012 All MSAC

Breanne Becker and Brooke Mayville were named to the 2012 All Mid States Athletic Conference Team for the standout play over the course of the season.  Both ladies played in 14 of the 15 competitions and only missed one game because of injuries.  Becker lead the country in total saves, 353 with the nations second leading goalkeeper at 185.  Mayville was the backbone of the central defense for the Spartans, but was also utilized by Coach Renaud in the center midfield position on numerous occasions.  "I think Bre had what one would describe as a breakout freshmen year.  She faced 30+ shots per game in 12 of the 14 games she was in goal.  We expect to supplement her skill sets with a firmer defensive four in 2013, which should reduce the number of shots she faces, while increase her save percentage at the same time.  There were many times Coach Simmons and I would just look at one another in amazement with some of the stops Bre came up with under heavy pressure," said Coach Renaud.  "Brooke was our workhorse down the middle, but more importantly our team leader.  She was the first to every practice and the last to leave.  And for those who witnessed her play over the course of the season, you could see that she left every ounce of energy and strength she had on the field at the conclusion of every match," said Renaud.  "More importantly, she led by example; at team study halls, community service events, on the team bus and in the classroom," added Renaud.

"I thought we had another one or two deserving candidates for the All Conference Team, but I think our win loss record, and lack of goal productivity worked against our other nominations, which is only fair in all conference considerations.  Coach Simmons and I are pleased both conference selections are returning for the sophomore seasons, as we feel combined with our incoming recruiting class and foundation of experienced returners we can find ourselves right in the middle of the pack in Region III," said Renaud.
