Women's Soccer Closes Weekend With a Win Over Clinton

The Lady Spartans completed their weekend double header with a 1-0 win over visiting Clinton Community College to move to a record of 1-1-0 for the season.  Again, Cayuga produced a strong defensive effort helping to secure the shutout after 90 minutes of tough relentless Clinton offensive attacks.  Cayuga was not without their chances, Madison Robillard (Fulton, NY) produce an exciting moment when she was played a lovely through pass from Martha Caster (Fulton, NY) to get in on goal only to have the Clinton keeper make a fantastic save. The game breaker came with 16 minutes left in the first half with a great pass from Brooke Laukaitis (Auburn, NY) across the box to Sarah Zakour (King Ferry, NY) who finished with a textbook shot.

Coach Robie Robillard commented, "The ladies again showed their fire and passion, holding an aggressive and skillful team like Clinton to no goals was surely a testament to the ladies' desire to start and finish strong. I am very pleased defensively and got very solid games from Tiffany Westmiller (Throop, NY) and Maddie Wedyck (Baldwinsville, NY ) as our outside backs. Offensively we came alive and had 10 shots from our attacking duo of Sarah Zakour and Maddie Robillard. Sarah had an amazing game. I'm happy for the ladies and this awesome win and they've worked very hard to come out on top today."

Captain Bre Becker (Lusby, MD) had a solid game in goal, producing her first shutout of the season. Becker ended with 7 saves.

The Lady Spartans travel to Onondaga Community College on Wednesday for their first MSAC match.
