Lady Spartans Drop Tough One on the Road

Lady Spartans lose on the road today against host Jamestown in a goal-fest afternoon. Cayuga was on the board first when freshman sensation Malarie Nelson picked the ball up in the midfield and single handedly took on Jamestown's defense to slot it the net for a 1-0 start. Jamestown return score afte a defensive breakdown a lot the Jayhawk player in on Cayuga's goal. Maddie Robillard (Fulton, NY) added the next goal and another Caguya lead when her shot hit off the goalie and into the net for a score line of 2 to 1 and assisted by Sarah Zakour and Martha Caster (Fulton, NY). Jamestown was able to tie it up at the half at 2 apiece.

Jamestown was able to take the early lead in the second half when they were able to, again break into the box one on one with Cayuga's goalie Bre Becker (Lisbon, MD).  The lady Spartans held tight and where able to tie it up with 10 minutes left in the game when Maddie Robillard crossed the ball to Captain Brooke Mayville (Wayne, NY) who cleverly chip the ball over the Jayhawks goalie and into the net. Unfortunately the Jayhawks capitalized on a free kick outside the box with 4 minutes left and were able to place it neatly in the corner of Cayuga's goal for a score line of 4 to 3 and the win.

After the game Coach Robillard commented, "The ladies played well today and just some basic defensive breakdowns that Jamestown were able to take advantage of where our downfall. I am very happy with the progress we are making as a team and know we can come out of the season with a winning record after great play like this today. Again, solid games from Martha Caster and Malarie Nelson who opened her goal scoring account today. I know this young player has many games of great soccer in her."

Cayuga hosts Genesee Community College on Wednesday at Emerson Park in Auburn
