Cayuga Loses Heartbreaker in Dying Minutes

The Lady Spartans traveled again today, taking on another nationally ranked opponent in Holyoke Community College for their second game of 2015 Northeast Cup, held at Tompkins Cortland Community College.

Cayuga started the game on fire and where able to score in the match's first 5 minutes. Michaela Breeze (Auburn, NY) picked up the ball in the midfield and beat 3 HCC defenders to send a side footed kick into the goal. Cayuga held firm but 15 minutes later Holyoke CC scored when given a penalty kick.

Cayuga stated the second have strong with good offensive efforts from Duanna Johnson (Auburn, NY), Martha Caster (Fulton, NY) and Sarah Zakour (King Ferry, NY) …but no Lady Spartan could not find the go ahead goal. The heartbreaker from HCC came with 3 minutes left in the game with a one verse one shot on the keeper. Michaela Breeze and Martha Caster did provide a brilliant effort with 1 minute left in the game as the both worked the ball into the HCC box only to see the shot sail a little wide of the goal.

Coach Robillard had this to say about his team, "Again the ladies played hard today and two games like this, in the heat, back to back is not an easy task for a season start. Games like this are good to gage what we need to work on and where we are heading as a team. I am seeing great stuff from our returners as well as many newcomers making a name for themselves."

Goalkeeper Cheyenne Rivenburg (Little Falls, NY) had another stellar showing with 21 saves

The Lady Spartans travel to North County and Clinton Community Colleges on 9/5 & 9/6.
