Hard Fought 5-Set Loss at Home vs. OCC

Tonight the Cayuga Spartans fell just short of victory to the Onondaga Lazers. In a tough 2-3 loss at home, the young Spartans (10 freshman and 2 sophomores) came out big putting impressive stats on the board. We caught up with Coach McDonough after the match and she stated, "This was the first time in 5 years the Spartans have taken a set from OCC, and we are right there with them amongst other top contending teams in our region. This team is young, ambitious, and finally HUNGRY for the win. We, Coach Hile and myself, cannot wait to see how these young ladies continue progressing."

Stat leaders for the evening include Lexi Tucker (Union Springs, NY), Heather Thompson (Solvay, NY), Jadda Phillips (Syracuse, NY), and Nyasha Terry (Brooklyn, NY). Tucker walked away tonight with 32 digs bringing her conference leading total to 400 on the season. Heather Thompson boasted 24 kills, 17 digs, and 4 solo blocks. Jadda Phillips added a season high of 36 assists; bringing her present total to 423. Last by not least, Terry added another 5 solo blocks and one block assist. Terry has really come alive the second half of the season and is consistently the team's top blocker.  While the other 8 members of the roster may not have put up record breaking numbers, their contributions were equally valuable. "Every member of my roster is important. My starters and my bench both provide the tools we need to be successful," said McDonough. "If our bench was quiet our court would lack energy. I'm appreciative of the work all of them put in on a daily basis."

The Spartans travel to Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday where they will face off against Adirondack CC, Columbia Green CC, and Hudson Valley CC in a Region 3 POD.
