Men's Soccer Returns to Region III Championship

The Spartan men's soccer team won their regional soccer semi-final playoff game last night as the #5 seed Cayuga beat #4 seed Onondaga in a 1-0 thriller. The contest was played in a down pour and heavy winds at Chuck Wilber Field on the OCC campus. The Spartans scored the game winner with just under 9 minutes left in regulation on an Alfie Hipwell (London, England) goal from a Matt Devlin (Belfast, Northern Ireland) assist. Sophomore goal keeper Daniel Burdaspar (Navarra, Spain) had 11 total saves…a few spectacular ones to protect the Cayuga shutout. The Spartans now will face #1 seed Herkimer Generals in the Regional finals at Genesee on Sunday 11/3 at 3:00pm. This will be a re-match of last year's final with another chance to advance to the National Tournament.
