Late Run Leads Spartans Over Raiders

A late 7-0 run pushed the Spartans to a three-point victory Wednesday in a road contest at Fulton-Montgomery Community College.

Trailing 68-64 with 1:29 remaining, the Spartans scored the final seven points to secure a 71-68 victory, with a clutch shot by leading scorer Deonte Holder starting the run.

"We called a time-out and drew up a nice play for Deonte. We executed and Deonte hit the three to cut the lead to one. That was a big shot," said Coach Tony Borges. "We got the necessary stops on the defensive end late in the game."

Holder scored a game-high 21 for the Spartans, and also added five rebounds. Shaheed Alcide and Scott Minnoe both had double-doubles for the Spartans, with Alcide scoring 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds and Minnoe scoring 11 and collecting 11 rebounds, respectively.

Cayuga closes the first semester of the season with a home contest against nationally-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 3 p.m.
