Cayuga Community College picked up a pair of divisional wins Sunday with a home sweep of Jefferson Community College.

The Spartans rallied from a two-run deficit to defeat the Cannoneers 6-3 in the opener, then piled up a 12-2 win in the nightcap. The wins improve the Spartans' record to 13-11 and 8-4 in East Division play.

"As we get later in the season, you want to control your own fate when it comes to the playoffs. And you want to get hot at the right time. We're fortunate that we have the chance to do both of those things, and today was a good step toward that," said Cayuga Coach John Rizzo.

The Spartans trailed for most of the first contest after the Cannoneers scored two in the second. Cayuga finally tied it in the fifth on a Kevin Dolan RBI single, scoring Alex Gaudet. The Spartans found themselves behind 3-2 in the sixth before scoring four in the inning on a squeeze play, a Juan Perez single and two bases-loaded walks.

Bradley Soto-Diaz went two-for-two with a run and three stolen bases, Dolan had two RBI, and Matt Rumney allowed three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings of work. The Spartans stole seven bases in the game.

In the second game, the teams were tied at two through the top of the fourth inning before the Spartans scored five runs in the bottom half and five more in the fifth to put the game away. A two-run single by Gaudet and a two-run double by Soto-Diaz broke the game open in the fourth, and the following inning saw Yoldi Soriano, Soto-Diaz and Perez knock RBI singles to push the margin to 12-2.

Soto-Diaz went four-for-four with two doubles, four RBI and three stolen bases, and Soriano was two-for-two with three runs scored, a double and a stolen base. Austin Doyle-Miller threw a complete game for the win.

Cayuga is on the road Thursday, April 25, for a doubleheader at Jefferson. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
