Cayuga Community College Baseball catcher Perry Chetney was recently named Region III Defensive Player of the Year, and five other Spartans earned regional honors after their strong 2024 seasons.

Six leaders from the Spartans' team received postseason accolades from Region III this month, with Chetney, Brantley Griggs, Juan Perez and Bradley Soto-Diaz named All-Region Second Team. Kevin Dolan and Alex Gaudet joined Chetney on the Region's All-Glove Team.

Chetney was one of the top fielding catchers in the NJCAA this season, throwing out more than 43 percent of runners while committing only one error on the season. He was third nationally with 19 runners thrown-out during the season.

Chetney, Perez, and Soto-Diaz led the Spartans in almost every offensive category during the season. Soto-Diaz led Cayuga with a .400 average and set a program record with 26 stolen bases while adding 21 RBI and a team-high 35 runs. Chetney ended the season leading the Spartans with five homers and 37 RBI while batting .376. Perez batted .349, was second on the team with 28 RBI, and led Cayuga with 13 doubles.

Griggs was the Spartans' top reliever on the season, winning a team-high six games and registering two saves. He earned the Spartans' postseason win against Genesee Community College and threw nine innings in the playoffs, allowing just one earned run.

The Spartans were the top fielding team in Division III, with a nation-best .974 fielding percentage. Third baseman Kevin Dolan and second baseman Alex Gaudet were among the Spartans' top fielders, with Dolan finishing the season with a .981 fielding percentage and Gaudet registering a .983 fielding percentage.
