Kyle Peryer threw a complete game shutout on Saturday against Mohawk Valley CC.
Cayuga Community College starting pitchers Ashtyn Traugott-Knoll and Kyle Peryer dominated in a pair of shutout victories over Mohawk Valley Community College on Saturday.

The Spartans opened Region III division play with wins of 11-0 and 12-0 over the Hawks, extending their winning streak to nine games. Cayuga is now 11-3 on the season.

"It was a difficult day to play today, but we did a great job battling through that to play two good games," said Cayuga Coach John Rizzo.

Knoll controlled the opener from the first inning, allowing only one hit and striking out four while throwing a complete game. At the plate, Cayuga scored a run in the second on a sacrifice fly from Isaac Allison, then in the third inning a three-run homer by Jeremy Recio and a two-run homer from Alejandro Diaz made it 6-0. Recio powered Cayuga's offense later in the game, driving-in two in the fourth inning with a single and another run in the sixth with a triple.

Recio finished the game with three hits, six RBI and two runs, and Diaz had two hits and three RBI. Luca D'Emilio had four hits and three runs scored, and Jakson Ross had three hits.

The second game saw Peryer take the hill and continue to shut down the Hawks' lineup, scattering five hits while striking out six. Leading 2-0 in the fifth, Cayuga exploded for six runs to put the game away. Run-scoring singles by Eathen Yoon and Allison started the scoring, followed by RBI doubles from Mike DeRosa and Jacob Laird. Cayuga scored four more in the seventh on RBI singles by Diaz and Michael Blowers.

D'Emilio led the Spartans' offense in the second game with three hits, scoring twice. Four Spartans — Laird, Diaz, Yoon and Kevin Dolan — had two hits, with Dolan and Isaac Allison scoring twice. Diaz had three RBI, and DeRosa and Dolan drove-in two runs.

The Spartans host the Hawks on Sunday, March 23, at Falcon Park. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
