Spartans Complete Season Sweep of Hawks

Cayuga Community College Baseball took both halves of a home doubleheader from Mohawk Valley Community College on Sunday.
 
The Spartans completed the four-game season sweep of the Hawks, with a strong start by James MacLean leading the way in a 5-3 opening win before the lineup dominated 12-3 in the second game. Cayuga has now won 11 straight games and is 13-3 on the season.
 
Cayuga took the lead early in the opener, with Mike DeRosa scoring on a single by Jakson Ross in the first inning. They made it 4-1 in the third, with Emilio Turco driving in one run on a sacrifice fly. Cayuga added an insurance run in the fifth inning on a double by Turco, scoring Ross.
 
MacLean threw a complete game, scattering nine hits and striking out two across seven innings. DeRosa finished with three hits, and Jeremy Recio and Ross had two hits. Ross scored twice, and Turco had two RBI.
 
In the second game, Cayuga broke open a 2-2 tie with a three-run third. Todd Brandl's sacrifice fly drove-in one run, then the Spartans scored twice on a Hawks' error. They scored four more in the fifth, starting with Ross doubling in Isaac Allison. Later in the inning, Recio's two-run double scored Eathen Yoon and Kevin Dolan. DeRosa's bases-loaded triple in the sixth ended the scoring for Cayuga.
 
Andrew Seward earned the win for Cayuga, throwing three innings and striking out three. Recio had three hits and three RBI, DeRosa had three RBI, and Brandl and Yoon had two RBI. Dolan, Alejandro Diaz and Allison had two hits each, and Dolan scored three times.
 
Cayuga is on the road Thursday, March 27, at Hudson Valley Community College. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.
