Cayuga Community College Baseball completed a home sweep of SUNY Broome on Sunday, scoring 21 runs and holding the Hornets to only 10 hits on the day.

The Spartans dominated both contests at Falcon Park, defeating the Hornets 10-2 and 11-1 to help Cayuga Coach John Rizzo earn his 100th and 101st wins in less than four seasons as head coach. Cayuga is now 19-7 on the season, 10-4 in the East Division and 9-1 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference.

Rizzo credited his predecessor, TJ Gamba, who was the head coach when the program started in 2018-19, as well as the players who have competed at Cayuga.

"None of this is possible without Coach Gamba, who is a mentor and started our program from scratch, and all the assistant coaches we've had over the years who sacrifice their time to work with our players," said Rizzo. "Most importantly, the players win games, and we've had some very talented ones in this program."

Cayuga trailed 1-0 in the fourth inning of the opener when they scored six times to take control of the game. Luca D'Emilio and Jakson Ross had two-run doubles, and Mike DeRosa's two-run single closed the scoring in the inning. The Spartans plated two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to close the scoring.

Ashtyn Traugott-Knoll threw a complete game for the win, striking out seven and scattering six hits. Kevin Dolan, D'Emilio and Ross had two hits, with D'Emilio driving in three runs. Dolan, Jeremy Recio and Jacob Laird each scored twice.

The Spartans trailed early in the second game before scoring 11 straight runs, highlighted by a five-run third inning. D'Emilio doubled home Alejandro Diaz and Isaac Allison to open the scoring in the inning, then Dolan's single scored D'Emilio and Dylan Gordon. DeRosa's RBI double scored Dolan to give Cayuga a 7-1 lead. They tacked on two more runs in the fourth and the fifth to end the game.

Kyle Peryer threw four innings for the win, allowing one unearned run and four hits while striking out two. DeRosa and Diaz had three hits, with DeRosa finishing with two RBI and Diaz scoring twice. D'Emilio had two RBI and scored three times, Dolan had three RBI, and Gordon scored twice.

Cayuga is home again Thursday, April 10, to host Herkimer College. First pitch of the doubleheader at Falcon Park is scheduled for 2 p.m.
