Cayuga Community College Baseball rallied from early deficits to take both halves of a home doubleheader against Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Sunday.
The Spartans trailed in both games but came back for wins of 6-3 and 9-3 over the Raiders. Cayuga is now in third place in Region III's East Division with a divisional record of 12-6, and is 21-9 overall.
In the opener, the Raiders built an early 3-0 lead before the Spartans tied the game in the third inning. Luca D'Emilio's triple ignited Cayuga's lineup, with five of the next six batters reaching base safely. D'Emilio scored on a Raiders' error, Owen Browne scored on a balk, and Mike DeRosa singled home Kevin Dolan to even the game.
The game stayed tied until the bottom of the sixth, when Cayuga scored three runs to take the lead. Jeremy Recio tripled and scored on a Raiders' error, Jacob Laird scored on a wild pitch, and D'Emilio singled home Alejandro Diaz.
James MacLean earned the win for Cayuga, scattering five hits over four scoreless innings. D'Emilio had two hits, a run and an RBI, and Recio had two hits.
In the second game, Kyle Peryer shut down the Raiders after the second inning, throwing a complete game and allowing the Spartans to score nine straight runs for the win.
Cayuga plated five in the second inning, capitalizing on two Raiders' errors to go up 5-3. D'Emilio tripled home Laird in the fifth, then scored on a single by Eathen Yoon to make it 7-3. In the sixth, Laird singled home Recio, then scored on a double by Diaz to end the scoring.
Recio and D'Emilio each had three hits in the second game, while DeRosa, Yoon and Laird had two hits. Dolan had two RBI, and Laird scored twice.
Cayuga ends its season series with the Raiders on Thursday, April 17, then hosts a doubleheader against Finger Lakes Community College on Friday, April 18.
