Owen Browne had the walk-off hit for the Spartans in an extra-inning win over Finger Lakes CC on Friday.
Owen Browne's extra-innings single capped an eight-run comeback for Cayuga Community College Baseball and a sweep of Finger Lakes Community College on Friday.

With two outs and two runners on-base, Browne lofted a 1-1 pitch into centerfield, scoring Luca D'Emilio from second base in the bottom of the ninth inning. The walk-off came on the heels of the Spartans winning the opener 14-4 against the Lakers, moving Cayuga's record to 25-9 and 11-1 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference.

The Spartans took over the first game behind two six-run innings. Trailing 2-0 in the second, Cayuga loaded the bases and scored once on a hit batter, then scored five more on RBI singles by Mike DeRosa, Jeremy Recio and Jacob Laird. In the third inning, Cayuga scored six more, with RBI singles by DeRosa and Laird and an RBI double from Recio.

Recio went four-for-four with a triple, double, two runs scored and five RBI, and Laird finished with four RBI. DeRosa scored twice and had three RBI, and Alejandro Diaz scored three times and drove-in two runs. Jakson Ross and Kevin Dolan scored twice, and Isaac Allison scored three runs. Kyle Peryer earned the complete game win, striking out two.

The Lakers claimed the early lead in the second game behind a seven-run second inning. Behind 8-0 in the third, Cayuga got on the board on DeRosa's two-run single, then scored two more in the fourth on a sacrifice from Diaz and another single from DeRosa.

Trailing 8-6 in the seventh, the Spartans rallied to tie the score and send the game to extras. D'Emilio singled to start the inning, then beat out an attempted force-out at second base on a groundball from Ross, putting two runners on with no outs. Dolan advanced the runners with a bunt before Allison drove-in one with a single and Browne doubled home Ross to tie the game.

The game stayed scoreless through the eighth and top of the ninth, with Cayuga reliever James MacLean pitching out of trouble in both innings. In the bottom of the ninth, D'Emilio drew a walk and advanced on a bunt, setting up Browne's game-winning single.

Browne finished two-for-three with a run and two RBI, and DeRosa had two hits and three RBI. Recio and D'Emilio both had two hits, with D'Emilio scoring twice. Dolan and Diaz scored twice, with Diaz also collecting an RBI. Dylan Gordon and MacLean combined for seven innings in relief, surrendering only one run.

The Spartans are on the road Tuesday, April 22, at SUNY Broome, then host Monroe Community College on Wednesday, April 23.
