Spartans Swept at Broome
Cayuga Community College Baseball lost both halves of a doubleheader at SUNY Broome on Tuesday.
The Spartans lost a late lead in the opening 10-5 loss, then fell in the second game by a 6-3 final. Cayuga is now 25-11 on the season, 14-8 in East Division play and 11-3 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference.
Cayuga built a 5-4 lead in the opener, scoring twice on an error in the first inning, then scoring two more in the second on a single by Kevin Dolan and a sacrifice fly by Mike DeRosa. Dolan added another RBI single in the sixth to break a 4-4 tie, but Cayuga surrendered six unearned runs in the bottom half of the inning to lose 10-5.
Luca D'Emilio had two hits, including a double, and Dolan had two RBI. James MacLean threw five innings, striking out four.
In the second game, Cayuga trailed by three before tying the game in the third inning. Dolan doubled home Jean-Paul Anthony before scoring on a wild pitch, cutting the Hornets' lead to 3-2. Alejandro Diaz doubled home DeRosa later in the inning to tie the score. SUNY Broome added three runs in the fourth, though, and held the lead the rest of the game.
Diaz had two hits for Cayuga in the second game, and Andrew Seward threw 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Cayuga hosts Monroe Community College on Wednesday, April 23. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
