A difficult first half was too much for Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball to overcome against #9 Herkimer College on Saturday.
The Spartans struggled to contain the Generals' offense in the first half, and despite a more competitive second half lost the home game by a 93-66 final. Cayuga is now 1-4 on the season and 1-3 in Region III play.
The Generals scored the first 10 points of the contest, and used several other runs in the first half to build distance between them and the Spartans. Herkimer sank 10 three-pointers in the frame and led 60-30 at the break.
Cayuga played a stronger second half, tightening up their defense and outscoring Herkimer 36-33.
Forward Tony Borges led Cayuga with 16 points and eight rebounds, and guard Amaree Samuel had 13 points and two steals. Wylik Coleman had six points, five rebounds and two assists.
Cayuga is home again tomorrow, Nov. 17, against #8 Mohawk Valley Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
