Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball earned a hard-fought home win over North Country Community College on Sunday.

The Spartans held a single-digit lead for much of the contest against the Saints, eventually earning an 80-73 win behind late free throws and strong offensive performances from Desean Strachan and Tony Borges. The win moves the Spartans to 4-9 on the season and 4-7 in Region III play.

Three-point shooting helped the Saints take the early lead, but the Spartans stayed close, with Borges and Strachan combining to score the team's first 14 points. Cayuga took the lead on a Strachan and-one and eventually built a nine-point lead. A late rally from the Saints made it 42-40 Cayuga at the break.

Cayuga held a small lead for much of the second half, with the Saints coming back to tie the game at 52 and later at 60. A three-pointer from Borges gave Cayuga a four-point lead with more than four minutes left, and the Spartans grew the lead to 10 behind free throws from Strachan and Marcus Pasha minutes later. Several late three-pointers from the Saints cut the margin to five, but Cayuga held the lead the rest of the game.

Borges led Cayuga with 26 points and five three-pointers, with Strachan finishing with 24 points and Pasha with 18. The Spartans made 11 three-pointers in the game.

Cayuga is home again on Wednesday, Jan. 22, to host Genesee Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
